Can breakout rooms have independent recordings and transcriptions?

Yes. Each breakout room can have its own independent recording and transcription. When the breakout session ends, recordings and transcripts from each room are associated with the parent meeting but stored separately. Per-room summaries are generated if summary generation is enabled.

Three Assignment Modes

V100 breakout rooms support three participant assignment strategies. Choose the mode that fits your use case, or switch modes between breakout sessions within the same meeting.

Pre-Assigned

The host or API caller defines which participants go into which rooms before the breakout begins. Ideal for structured workshops where team composition matters, classroom activities where the instructor controls grouping, and compliance-driven scenarios where specific attendees must be in specific rooms.

Self-Selected

Participants choose which room to join from a list of available rooms with descriptions. Rooms can have capacity limits. Ideal for unconference-style sessions, topic-based discussions where attendees self-organize, and networking events where people join rooms by interest.

Random Rotation

Participants are randomly distributed into rooms and automatically rotated to new rooms after a configurable interval. Ideal for speed networking, ice-breaker activities, and peer review sessions where every participant should interact with multiple groups.

How Breakout Rooms Work

Each breakout room is an independent media session running on V100's SFU infrastructure. Rooms inherit the parent meeting's encryption, recording, and transcription settings but operate as isolated sessions.

Per-Room Recording

Each room can have independent recording. All recordings are linked to the parent meeting and stored with the same AES-256-GCM encryption and ML-DSA-65 signatures. After the breakout session, individual room recordings are accessible alongside the main meeting recording.

Per-Room Transcription

Live transcription runs independently in each room with speaker diarization. Room-specific transcripts are stored separately and linked to the parent meeting. When summary generation is enabled, each room gets its own AI-generated summary.

Timer-Based Auto-Return

Set a timer when opening breakout rooms. Participants see a countdown. When the timer expires, all participants are automatically returned to the main meeting room. A configurable warning notification appears before the timer ends (default: 60 seconds).

Host Broadcast

The host can broadcast audio, video, or a text message to all rooms simultaneously. This allows the host to provide instructions, time checks, or announcements without entering each room individually. Broadcast appears as an overlay in each room.

Integration Guide

Create and manage breakout rooms through V100's REST API or SDK. Rooms can be created before the meeting starts or opened dynamically during the meeting.
