Why SRT Replaces Legacy Contribution

Traditional broadcast contribution relies on satellite uplinks, dedicated fiber, or RTMP over managed networks. Each has fundamental limitations that SRT was designed to solve. RTMP Is Unencrypted

RTMP was designed in 2002 and transmits video in the clear. RTMPS (RTMP over TLS) exists but is not universally supported by encoders and adds significant overhead. SRT includes AES-128 and AES-256 encryption as a core protocol feature. Every SRT stream is encrypted by default with minimal performance impact. For contribution feeds carrying premium or sensitive content, encryption is a requirement, not an option.
